Prior to joining COS, Emily pursued graduate work in comparative economics at the University of Chicago. Additionally, she held a Fellowship in the Specialized Training Program in the Demography and Economics if Aging through the NIA at the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) at the University of Chicago. Emily has also taught Academic and Professional writing for seven years at the university level; her skills lie in assisting researchers explain complex theories in accessible and clear language.
Much of her academic work has focused on community formation and how demographics shape economic and health decisions. She has performed field work in the UK, Italy, and Greece. During this research, Emily performed ethnographies, archival research, and has built GIS databases to model community formation in communities without regular monetary access.
Emily received her Bachelors of Arts with Honors in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (PPE) and History from Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, CA and two Master’s degrees in Social Sciences and History from the University of Chicago. Emily also holds Certificates in Computational Social Sciences and College Teaching from the University of Chicago.
