More about Cristian
Prior to joining COS, Cristian has nearly 25 years of experience working as a quantitative methodologist. He worked as an Assistant Professor in the Quantitative Research, Evaluation, and Measurement program at Ohio State University. There, he taught doctoral-level courses in statistics and psychometrics. Cristian has co-authored 26 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and presented at 40 national and international conferences. He provides statistical and psychometric reviews for many journals and serves on the editorial board of the journal of Evaluation and the Health Professions.
During his career, Cristian participated in 13 research projects, including seven as the principal investigator (PI) or co-PI. In his roles as PI and co-PI, Cristian managed and collaborated with small research teams consisting of doctoral students, senior research scientists, and other faculty members. Half all his projects focused on the development and validation of survey instruments. Examples include a validation of the wrist and hand Fugl-Meyer instrument, the Patient Assessment of Chronic Illness Care instrument, the Vocational Fit Assessment, and the Maslach Burnout Inventory. Cristian’s most recent projects entail the development and validation of an instrument for measuring coping strategies among parents experiencing high levels of stress and one for measuring harsh parenting.
Cristian is recognized for his expertise in survey development and validation using modern psychometric methods such as ordinal exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, structural equation modeling, Rasch modeling, and reliability (e.g., ordinal alpha and omega, bootstrap split-half reliability, Raykov’s rho, generalizability theory). He has developed several quantitative methods.
Cristian holds a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, a M.A. in Clinical and Community Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Evaluation from Western Michigan University at Kalamazoo.
