Helen Doll DPhil

Executive Director, Quantitative Science

Helen Doll is a Executive Director of Quantitative Sciences, based at our European office in Folkestone, UK. Helen is a Medical Statistician and Psychometrician who has completed over 25 years of clinical research experience, both in academia and in the pharmaceutical industry.

More about Helen

Prior to joining COS in February of 2018, Helen had led the quantitative team within ICON’s Patient Centred Outcomes group for more than five years. She has also held Senior Medical Statistician and Lecturer positions at the Universities of Oxford and East Anglia.

Helen has co-authored more than 120 peer-reviewed papers, is a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, and provides statistical reviews for many international journals including the British Medical Journal and Quality of Life Research. Helen has extensive experience of research in many specialties (e.g., cardiology, urology, diabetes and endocrinology, orthopaedics, rheumatology, psychiatry, primary care, public health) and has experience in the statistical and psychometric issues associated with clinical outcome assessments, with her work focusing on the measurement of meaningful change and the application of item response and Rasch measurement theory. She also has a growing interest in calculation of sample sizes for qualitative research, and in the development and application of patient preference methods, such as discrete choice experiments, in the measurement of issues that are of most importance to the users and providers of health services.

Helen holds a BSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Warwick, and a Diploma in Applied Statistics, MSc and a DPhil in Medical Statistics from the University of Oxford.
